A quick recap – from the fields to fairs, CrackSense is showcasing major contributions to the advancements in fruit cracking mitigation. Check out the latest videos, news and insights in the following text.
Capturing Key Moments and Insights from CrackSense 1st Consortium Meeting
In late February, the CrackSense consortium organised a three-day symposium at the Corsican INRAE facility in San Giuliano. From February 26th to 28th, this event marked a significant milestone in our collective efforts to address fruit cracking. Now, as we move into June, we are excited to share a video that captures the key moments and insights.
Watch our video to see the highlights, learn about our innovative approaches, and take a look at their field visit to a local farmer organisation, a citrus packing house, and one of the world’s largest citrus germplasm collections at INRAE-CIRAD.
Impressions from the International Agricultural Fair 2024
On the very first day of The International Agricultural Fair, the CrackSense project was drawing early attention and interest from attendees. To engage visitors and raise awareness about our mission, representatives from Foodscale Hub organised a quiz that saw participation from 50 attendees, who walked away with goodies. This interactive approach helped spark meaningful conversations and raise awareness about the pressing issues facing modern agriculture.
What made the event truly special were the connections made. There was an opportunity to engage with potential partners from research institutes, small businesses, tech firms, and farming suppliers. These discussions opened up exciting opportunities for collaboration that could revolutionise the way farming is approached. CrackSense also tackled the challenges farmers encountered last season, particularly with grapes and cherries cracking. By sharing experiences and insights, CrackSense, with the help of visitors, is not just identifying problems but also paving the way for innovative solutions.
Spring Updates: CrackSense Research in Full Swing
Spring is almost over, and the growing season is in full swing! Researchers from the Volcani Institute, our leading organisation in the CrackSense consortium, recently paid a visit to the experimental plots. They are conducting a thorough analysis of environmental conditions contributing to fruit cracking in table grapes, utilising a wide array of digital tools.
Table grapes are one of the essential fruit crops covered by CrackSense experiments. Their growth and development are closely monitored to find innovative solutions for preventing grape cracking and ensuring better yields.
Meet Our Partner Campaign
We invite you to explore our ongoing “Meet Our Partner Campaign,” which highlights the invaluable contributions of our esteemed partners. Through regular features, we showcase the expertise and pivotal roles of team members within CrackSense partner organisations.
In this issue of the CrackSense Newsletter, we present ART21, an AgriFood Tech innovation house from Lithuania, focused on applying breakthrough technologies and providing novel solutions for the agriculture, forestry, food, and associated sectors in the Baltic states and beyond. In CrackSense, ART21 is bringing its expertise in remote sensing and system integration, focusing on system deployment and data acquisition in the cherry orchards during the project’s piloting activities.
